Ah, the King of Italian wine! Barolo is the bigger wine made from nebbiolo, a grape that ripens into the fall when clouds creep up into souther Piedmont. The grape has a lighter color and almost looks like pinot noir in the glass, but dont be fooled: its bite is much stronger than its bark! Rich fresh and dried fruit notes mix with menthol and dried perfumy floral notes, giving in to an intensely tannic and structured palate with notes of oak aging.
2013 was a vintage that yielded some slightly softer wines, which is good news: this Barolo is in a great place to enjoy with our superb pizza. Give your glass plenty of good swirls (or decant the bottle) and watch this wine evolve over the course of the meal and the evening!
